Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how AppMaven Studio ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use Smart Scanner (the "App"), package name com.appmaven.smartscanner, a mobile application for scanning documents, creating PDFs and images, recognizing and searching text (OCR), translating recognized text, scanning QR codes and barcodes, adding signatures and watermarks, and sharing, printing or backing up files.

If you use the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Who We Are

Smart Scanner is provided by AppMaven Studio through the website https://appmavenstudio.com/. We are responsible for the operation of the App and for this Privacy Policy. The App is available on Google Play.

2. Summary

• Your scanned documents, PDFs, recognized text, translations, annotations and signatures are processed and stored locally on your device.
• We do not upload the contents of your documents to our own servers. We do not operate servers that receive your documents.
• The free version of the App shows ads provided by Google AdMob, which may collect limited technical and advertising-related information. Smart Scanner Pro removes ads.
• If the App crashes, anonymous crash reports are sent to Google Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix problems. You can turn this off in Settings. Crash reports never include your documents.
• Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing.
• Files you share, save, print or back up go only to the app, service or location you choose.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information Processed Locally on Your Device

The App processes and stores the following information locally on your device:

• Scanned page images and imported images or PDF files
• Generated PDF and image files
• Text recognized in your documents (OCR) and a local search index built from it
• Translations you create
• Annotation data, including watermark text and handwritten signatures
• Folder names, file names, page counts, timestamps and other document metadata
• App settings, such as language, theme, export preferences, app lock setting, consent choices and Pro status

This information is used only to provide the features of the App.

3.2 Information We Do Not Collect on Our Own Servers

You do not need an account to use the App. We do not collect or store your document contents, recognized text, translations, signatures or annotations on our own servers.

3.3 Information Collected by Third-Party Services

The App uses the following services from Google, which may collect certain information directly from your device through their SDKs:

• Google AdMob (advertising, free version) and Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) (consent management): may collect device identifiers including the advertising ID, approximate location derived from the IP address, app interactions, and diagnostic information, to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud.
• Google Firebase Crashlytics (crash reporting): when the App crashes or a serious error occurs, it may collect crash logs and stack traces, device model, operating system version, app version, and a Firebase installation identifier. Crash reports do not include your documents or their text. You can turn crash reporting off in Settings › Send crash reports.
• Google Play Billing (purchases): processes the Smart Scanner Pro purchase and tells the App whether you own it.
• Google Play services / Google ML Kit (on-device features): document scanning, text recognition and the QR/barcode scanner run on your device through Google Play services, which may download the required models. When you translate text, a language pack is downloaded from Google once; the translation itself happens on your device. For the QR/barcode scanner, the camera is operated by Google Play services and the App receives only the decoded content.
• Google Play In-App Review: if you are asked to rate the App, the rating dialog is provided by Google Play; we do not receive your review through the App.

These providers handle information according to their own privacy policies, including Google's Privacy Policy.

4. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• scan, import, crop, rotate, organize and store documents;
• create PDF and image files, including password-protected PDFs;
• recognize text on your device and let you search inside your documents;
• translate recognized text on your device;
• scan QR codes and barcodes;
• add and render annotations, including watermarks and signatures;
• let you rename, organize into folders, merge, delete, share, save, print and back up documents;
• show ads in the free version and respect your consent choices;
• process and restore the Smart Scanner Pro purchase;
• remember your app preferences;
• understand and fix crashes (Crashlytics, if enabled);
• keep the App secure and compatible with your device.

5. Document Processing, Text Recognition and Local Storage

Smart Scanner is designed so that the document workflow happens locally on your device, including scanning, image processing, text recognition, search, translation, PDF creation and password protection, and annotation rendering.

Your document contents are not uploaded to AppMaven Studio servers as part of these features.

If you choose to share a document, export a file to another app, save it to a folder or cloud drive, print it, or save a backup file, that action is controlled by the destination app, service or location you choose, and its privacy practices apply.

6. Advertising

The free version of the App may display app open ads, interstitial ads and native ads. Smart Scanner Pro removes all ads.

• The App uses Google AdMob.
• Where required by law (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), the App asks for your consent through Google's consent form and provides a "Privacy choices" option in Settings to change it.
• Google and its partners may process advertising-related data such as the advertising identifier, device information and consent status.

We do not control how Google or its advertising partners process information collected through their services.

7. In-App Purchases

The App offers Smart Scanner Pro, a one-time purchase that removes ads and unlocks additional tools.

• Purchases are processed through Google Play Billing.
• We do not receive your payment card information.
• Google Play provides limited purchase status information needed to unlock or restore Pro.

8. Permissions and Device Features

• Internet access: for ads, consent, purchases, crash reports, downloading scanner/recognition models and translation language packs, and opening links.
• Biometric / screen lock (optional App lock): if you turn on App lock, Android verifies your fingerprint, face or device PIN. The App never receives your biometric data or PIN; it only learns whether the verification succeeded.
• Files and photos: the App uses Android's system pickers and "Save as" dialogs, so it only accesses the files you choose.
• Camera: the App does not request the camera permission; scanning and QR/barcode scanning run inside Google Play services.

9. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information or your document contents.

Information may be shared only:

• with the Google services listed in section 3.3, as described there;
• when you intentionally share, export, print or back up files using another app, service or location;
• when required by law, regulation, legal process or governmental request;
• to protect rights, safety and security, or to prevent fraud or abuse.

10. Data Retention

• Documents and files remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the App.
• Backup files you create remain wherever you saved them until you delete them.
• Local preferences remain until you clear app data or uninstall the App.
• Crash reports are retained by Firebase Crashlytics for a limited period (currently 90 days).
• Pro purchases can be restored through Google Play according to your Google account's purchase history.

11. Data Security

Document processing stays on your device. You can protect the App with App lock and protect exported PDFs with a password (AES-256). No app, device, storage system or transmission method is completely secure. Please protect access to your device, keep your PDF passwords safe (they cannot be recovered), and choose carefully where you share or store files.

12. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will review the request.

13. International Data Transfers

Google services used by the App may process data in countries other than your own. These transfers are governed by Google's privacy practices and legal mechanisms.

14. Your Choices and Controls

You can:

• turn crash reporting on or off in Settings;
• manage advertising consent through "Privacy choices" in Settings (where required) and reset your advertising ID in Android settings;
• turn App lock on or off;
• delete documents, folders and backup files;
• uninstall the App;
• restore your Pro purchase through Google Play.

15. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements or our practices. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
